What is Artificial Intelligence?
Studies on artificial intelligence, which brings a new dimension to the world of technology, are increasing day by day. The whole world has accelerated its work in this field and developed countries have even started to use artificial intelligence in many fields.
In the most general definition, artificial intelligence is the general name of the technology of developing machines that can exhibit behaviors and movements similar to human behavior without making use of a living organism. The first studies of artificial intelligence technology date back to 1940.
The main purpose of the studies is based on the principle that machines can solve problems faster without the help of humans. The first successful results of the studies initiated with the principle that machines can think were the one-armed robots in factories that lightened the burden of people to a great extent.
What is the Relationship between Artificial Intelligence and the Sciences?
Artificial intelligence is not a technology that can be used alone. This technology includes and benefits many fields. Some of these are as follows;
- Computer Science
- Psychology
- Sociology
- Philosophy
- Math
- Biology
However, the above areas play a strong role in making artificial intelligence more effective. For example, in order to build an artificial intelligence robot that can make human-like facial expressions and gestures, human anatomy and biology must be known very well. Especially in recent years, the smiles, blinks, and facial expressions and movements of artificial intelligence robots occur in this way.
What are the Application Areas of Artificial Intelligence?
The application areas of artificial intelligence are expanding very rapidly. These areas are categorized under three main headings. These are listed as follows:
1. Voice recognition: Voice recognition is one of the most widely used areas of artificial intelligence. Especially smartphones and many machines perform operations by recognizing the user’s voice. Today, this system is more advanced and has started to respond to previously recognized voices. In smart home systems, many operations are carried out with commands given by voice recognition.
2. Processing images: Processing images and using them later when needed is also an area where artificial intelligence is widely used. In particular, driverless vehicles, whose use is increasing day by day, recognize traffic signs and lights and roads in this way.
3. Reasoning ability: Thanks to the reasoning ability being developed in artificial intelligence, robot referees and judges are expected to enter our lives in a short time.
